Manipur
Zoological Garden was established on 2nd October
1976. The Zoo is situated about 7 kms away from
the state capital, Imphal on Imphal-Kanchup road
and surrounded by Manipur Agriculture University
on the southern side, Langol Road on the western
side and paddy field on |

he remaining
sides. Manipur Zoo is home to a number of rare and
endangered species which are endemic to this
region, many of which are included in Scheduled
I and II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
In consideration of its uniqueness, as it houses
mostly the rare animal species endemic to this
state, the Manipur Zoological Garden is
described as "Jewel Box" of Manipur. |

Area Description: |
|
Manipur Zoological Garden is recognized as a
medium zoo by the Central Zoo Authority. It
covers an area of 8 hectares with an additional
2.13 hectares at Langol Reserve Forest
maintained for captive breeding of Sangai, which
is one of the world's most endangered animals
and found only in Manipur.
The Manipur
Zoological Garden Society has been constituted
by the Government of Manipur vide Notification
No. 57/31/2003-For&Envt dated 31/12/2004.

Animals and Birds: |
|
There
are 55 (fifty five) species of animals and birds
and the total number of animals is over 420. It
has 14 endangered species mostly endemic to this
region.

Visiting Hours: |
|
The
zoo is open on all days except Monday which is a
holiday for the zoo.
The visiting timings are as
follows: |

Summer (April to September)
10.00 am to 4.30 pm. |

Winter (October to
March) 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. |
Ticket counter closes 30 minutes ahead of the
scheduled closed time.
